
ERNESTO LONGA
EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
Ernesto Longa has worked as a Law Librarian at the University of New Mexico (UNM) since 2007. He earned a B.A. in History from the University of Florida in 2002, J.D. magna cum laude from St. Thomas University in 2005, and an M.L.I.S. from the University of Washington in 2007. He serves as head research librarian at the UNM School of Law, teaches Introduction to Legal Research and Applied Legal Research, and serves as the faculty advisor to Law Students Against Imperialism.
Ernesto has been an active labor organizer in Albuquerque since 2016. He has conducted thousands of one-to-one conversations with members, gathered authorization cards, petitioned for unit certification, bargained a first contract, drafted a constitution and bylaws, represented members in grievances and arbitration hearings, filed prohibited practice complaints, served as an expert witness at the Roundhouse, and spoken at countless labor rallies, pickets, and demonstrations. Ernesto is committed to building member-run, democratic unions which prioritize internal organizing and coalition building.
He has served as the first President of United Academics of the University of New Mexico since 2021 and has been a member of AAUP’s national council since 2022.
