Albuquerque – American Federation of Teachers New Mexico President Whitney Holland and members of the New Mexico Congressional delegation released the following statements:

“During their collective time in office, these elected representatives have always put New Mexico’s issues at the forefront. We are fortunate to have their collective voices advocating on our behalf and each of these lawmakers have leveraged their expertise to confront issues close to New Mexico.

“Each of these lawmakers knows the value of a strong system of public education from birth through college or career, and that labor unions are the best pathway to achieving and preserving a strong middle class in our country. We know Martin, Melanie, Gabe, and Teresa will continue to put New Mexicans first while serving in Washington, and our union will work to ensure they are elected to continue to work on behalf of our state,” said Holland.

“New Mexico’s educators are shaping the future of our state — often going to great lengths to ensure our kids can thrive in their classrooms and beyond. They deserve leaders in Washington who will always show up for them, stopping at nothing to provide them with the fair pay and resources they need to do their jobs,” said Heinrich. “I’m honored to receive the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico endorsement, and I look forward to continuing the fight to ensure every teacher has the support they need to unlock a limitless potential for our kids," said US Sen. Martin Heinrich.

“I’m grateful to receive the endorsement of AFT New Mexico. Educators are on the front lines of shaping our future, nurturing young minds, and fostering the next generation. I am proud to stand with and for all of our educators and school workers. Together, we will continue to champion the policies that support our teachers and provide every child with the quality education they deserve. In Congress, I'm committed to ensuring our schools are well-funded, our classrooms are safe, and our teachers are respected and supported in their vital work,” said US Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01).

“Our public school educators play a pivotal role for our state, our future, and our democracy. I'm thankful for their work to move our state forward and mold the next generation of leaders and innovators. I'm honored to receive AFT NM's endorsement for re-election and to continue to fight for them in our Nation's Capital!” said US Rep. Gabe Vasquez (NM-02).

“As the daughter of educators, union members, and pioneers in bilingual education, having AFT NM’s support in my reelection means the world to me. I will always champion our educators, health care workers, and public employees – and remain committed to building a future where all our students, families, and communities have the opportunities and resources needed to thrive,” said US Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03).

AFT NM’s Executive Committee, based on voting records, campaign platforms, tenure in office, and upon the recommendation of AFT NM’s Committee on Political Education, formally issues endorsements in federal, legislative, and state races. Incumbency does not guarantee an endorsement.
