Albuquerque – American Federation of Teachers New Mexico President Whitney Holland and members of the New Mexico Congressional delegation released the following statements:

“Now, more than ever, we need voices in Washington advocating for New Mexican values and federal policies that work on behalf of the average American. Our union has witnessed Senator Luján and Representatives Stansbury, Vasquez, and Leger Fernández use their position to lift the needs of our state and stand against the abuses of this administration.

“These lawmakers know the value of a strong system of public education from birth through college or career, and that labor unions are the best pathway to achieving and preserving a strong middle class in our country. We trust Ben Ray, Melanie, Gabe, and Teresa will continue to put New Mexicans first while serving in Washington, and our union will work to ensure they are elected to continue to work on behalf of our state,” said Holland.

“I’m proud to have the support of the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico. Every day, dedicated teachers show up to guide and inspire the next generation. They mentor, support, and open doors for their students. The educators in my life helped shape who I am, and their impact drives my work in Congress. I’ll always fight for our teachers. They do extraordinary work, and our country depends on them," said US Sen. Ben Ray Luján.

“I’m honored to have the support of The American Federation of Teachers and the incredible educators who make a difference in our kids’ lives every single day. Our educators shape the future of our communities, and they deserve our full support. I’ll always stand up for strong public schools, fair pay, safe classrooms, and the respect our educators deserve,” said US Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01).

“The work that our public educators do each day is key to a brighter future for every New Mexican. I stand with them in their fight to ensure every educator has the means to live a fulfilling life and a rewarding career in the classroom. I am honored to receive AFT NM’s endorsement once again as I run for re-election!” said US Rep. Gabe Vasquez (NM-02).

“AFT NM is dedicated to teaching our little ones to read, our youth to think critically, and our communities to thrive. As the daughter of union teachers, I am committed to fully funding our schools and ensuring every child has a future filled with hope and opportunity. Together, we will continue to rewrite the rules of our economy to ensure that New Mexico's working families, the backbone of our state, remain the priority,” said US Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM-03).
